The performances will begin at 19:45 with the Valencian band “The Welcome Dynasty”, winner of the Winter Music contest organized by the City of Arts and Sciences. They are followed by “SUM 41”, and then, after the set by “My Chemical Romance”, at around 21:55, the concert will be concluded with DJ Sets by “Groove Armada” and “Orbital”.

The Valencian Regional Secretary for Governance, Luis Ibáñez, the Managing Director of the City of Arts and Sciences, Pedro García Ribot and representatives of MTV Networks, Raffaelle Annecchino, SVP General Manager MTV Networks Iberia and Paolo Donadio, Commissioning Editor, today gave more information on the organization of this 4th edition of the MTV Winter concert.

This year, MTV Winter is bringing together some of the hot young bands of the moment and two icons of electronic music in a concert that will bring in all kinds of audiences to see this stunning new production. This time round, the stage, situated under the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum, will be a 26x12 metre platform that is open to the public, accompanied by a 45 metre wide screen for the visuals. This innovative and spectacular stage means that the entire architecture of the City of Arts and Sciences will form part of the set.

Pedro García Ribot, General Manager of the City of Arts and Sciences, pointed out that during the course of the day on Saturday, all the museums in the complex will remain open. The Science Museum and the “Among Dinosaurs” exhibition will remain open until 19:00 hours, the Hemisfèric will show its last session at 16:00 hours and the Oceanogràfic will remain open until 20:00 hours.

Anyone wishing to attend the concert can enter the complex from 17:00 (see map in photo gallery) onwards through the gates that have been set up and that include a security check, as it is not permitted to enter with alcoholic drinks, cans, glass or anything else that the organizers consider to be a safety hazard. Pedro García Ribot also reminded the public that entry to MTV Winter is free until capacity has been filled.

Raffaelle Annecchino of MTV referred to the fact that MTV Winter “has now positioned itself as an emblematic event for our chain, one that attracts a great deal of attention abroad”. The MTV representative highlighted the roll call of performers this year, “with the hottest young rock bands of the moment and two legend of modern electronic music”. He also mentioned that the concert will be broadcast in Spain (MTV TDT) on the 19th March and internationally (MTV World Stage), on the 15th April.

In relation to the production, Annecchino said that the location of the stage has been changed so that “it is totally integrated with the architecture of the City of Arts and Sciences. This year we are presenting a creative, highly innovative and visually stunning set”. The stage is 30 metres wide, 13 metres deep and 16 metres high. The ceiling over the stage will be suspended from the walkway of the City of Arts and Sciences, at a height of 18 metres.
Security measures

The Valencian Regional Government, in partnership with Valencia City Council and the local Central Government Office will be rolling out a wide range of safety and security measures to ensure that the 4th edition of MTV Winter passes without incident. Specifically, the security personnel will be made up of 40 Regional Police Officers, 70 Local Police Officers, 5 firefighting crews and members of the National Police, security guards from the City of Arts and Sciences and the internal security staff of the organizers of the event.

The Valencian Regional Secretary for Governance, Luis Ibáñez, made clear that the objective of these security measures is to ensure that this music event “passes without incident, so that the public can enjoy the concerts as they have in previous years”. He also emphasized that “the coordination of the different security organizations and the back-up of telecommunications systems are crucial for guaranteeing the safety of the public”. The security personnel also includes 20 volunteers from Valencia’s Civil Protection corps, and there will be extra staff brought in to man the phones for the emergency number, 112.

The Secretary for Governance explained that to coordinate all the security staff, the CECOR (Coordination Centre) will be set up at 16.30 on the 12th March and will remain operational until the end of the concert. It will be located in the City of Arts and Sciences Security Centre and made up of an expert from the Emergency Coordination Centre, representatives of the Regional, Local and National Police, Municipal Firefighters and Civil Protection representatives, as well as City of Arts and Sciences staff and personnel from the event organizers.

To put all the measures in place, several pre-meetings have been held for all the parties involved. The ultimate goal is to join forces across the different authorities and the organizers to agree on security measures that will guarantee a rapid response in an emergency situation and the safety of the public, as well as to facilitate entry points and evacuation of the complex.
