From visits to the aquariums and their technical areas, to educational workshops, animation, dolphin exhibitions, and even spending a night surrounded by sharks. These are some of the activities that the Oceanogràfic of the City of Arts and Sciences has planned this year for its Easter School, which will be held from 26th to 29th April.

This initiative is aimed at primary schoolchildren and is presented as a Easter holiday alternative that can be fun but which is also didactic and features plenty of animal life, in which the children and the ocean are the protagonists. In short, this is an opportunity for kids to enjoy themselves to the full while they learn in contact with nature.

Among the proposals, the activity that has been prepared for the night of Thursday 29th April stands out. This is “Sleeping with Sharks”, in which the participants will have the experience of spending the night in the Océanos Tower and of falling asleep surrounded by bull sharks, grey sharks, or nurse sharks, as well as the swordfish and the ocean sunfish, among other curious species. On the following day the children will take part in the releasing of turtles, which will be returned to their natural habitat after recovering their strength at the Sea Animal Conservation and Recovery Centre (Área de Recuperación y Conservación de Animales del Mar, ARCA) of the Oceanogràfic.

The Easter School will also serve to support the “International Forest Year” campaign (proposed by the UN) and the Ape Campaign of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) in support of the world’s apes. The children will thus visit the Hemisfèric to see the “Amazon” projection or the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum, where they will explore the “Forest of Chromosomes” interactive exhibition. They will also participate in a finger fish workshop at the Oceanogràfic or in a night gymkhana, in which “Tarzan of the seas” will appear as an emblematic character related to both forests and apes.
